Thinking about it, you could always do something like write the word NOTE at 
the start of the description or note field of any item you want to format as a 
note. You could then get the automatic formatting rule to look for items where 
the note field starts with your keyword, then puts your note icon in position 
0. It would be a good idea to set it as folder, too, so that it doesn't appear 
in your todo list views.

Oh, I love those Automatic Formatting rules - they make MLO so flexible!
