Bob, I unfortunately don't have time to give your inquiry the attention it 
deserves this week but here is a quick thought.

Make workspaces that represent the permanent zoom level for each view. In each 
workspace,  make that view the default and then lock the workspace. You should 
find that when you zoom further in, MLO leaves the locked workspace alone and 
creates  new unlocked workspace with your new zoom. Instead of zooming out when 
you are done, just close the unlocked workspace and you should find yourself 
back in the locked workspace with the original zoom.
