I feel the way Michelle does about this. What I do not believe for a second is that formulas are different for the public. Many techs shop at Sally's and they sell quite a few brands that many of us use. Why would they change the formula? To make it not work as well? Then they would have to deal with the pros calling to complain. So will the companies tell them that the Sally products are inferior? I doubt it. As for the light, will have to check that out!
