I wouldn't worry about it, I watched as my relative used one of those kits and she made a complete mess. She doesn't want to pay me so she does it herself. Believe me that is not the client that you want in your salon anyway. It's on her cuticles and doesn't come off as easy as shellac or any of the better brands. Her nails have really thinned out because of the constant buffing and re-doing. I just laugh and keep it moving as she looks at my nails that are healthy and strong because I know what I'm doing and am a licensed professional. Chloe San Antonio, TX

This kit comes within at sounds like a primer, a base gel, top gel, orange wood sticks, and some nail wipes. The UV light and gel polishes are sold separately. The second one is from Red Carpet Manicure. The kit comes with a battery operated LED light, primer, base, 1 gel polish, top coat, cleanse, a soak off product. Cuticle oil. If you go directly to their website, there is a LED light going for $49.99. http://www.redcarpetmanicure.com/ It's probably no different from the public being able to purchase at Sally. There have always been and always will be people who are as good as we are who do their own nails. They were never going to be our clients anyway so we haven't lost the potential of their revenue. Then there will be a second kind of woman who buys this kit and will jack up her nails and come to us to fix them. Bam! New client for us who learned the hard way. She'll always be grateful. As for why we have to pay so much more for our professional lamps, that's a damn good question! Upon closer inspection, discoverered that it was an LED gel polish product, geared toward the person who wants to do her own home gel polish manicure. If you want to see it, here's a link: http://www.sensationailgel.com/ There is a fairly extensive Q&A section on the website about this product as well. I think what bothered me most about it all was that the basic kit contained base and top gel (one product), primer, color, cleanser and an LED lamp...all for the price of $60! This of course got me thinking: how come our "professional" LED lamps cost in the neighborhood of $500? Yes, I am very well aware of the fact that our professional products are MUCH higher quality than the public version. I will also admit that I don't know a whole lot about the difference between UV lamps and LED lamps (other than the very basics). Now, do I think this at-home kit is going to steal customers from us professionals? In all likelihood, probably not, or at least not too many. Let's fact it, our clients come to us because they can't polish their nails! (At least that what my customers tell me.) If they can't polish their nails, what on earth makes them think they can do UV gel polish nails to themselves...geez! Yeah, I know our clients come to us for a lot of reasons, but the polish one is a biggie. Anyway, thought you all might be interested in knowing there's yet another at-home competitive product. <sigh> Mindy Borrego -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "NailTech" group.
