I recall an Elite or Elan (??? I forget which) from that same era which
was sold to a client here in Okla. City that also had hum problems AS
DELIVERED. I even went so far as to totally disconnect the desk from
every piece of wiring besides the PSU, and used a battery operated power
amp for testing!
Multiple phone calls over multiple months did not resolve the problem.
The reclusive "owner" of Neotek seemed to be "hiding under his desk".
Finally, my client must have "raised some cain", and here was the solution.
Inside of the PSU, we were told to add 4 or 6 feet of wire (18 gauge?
14??? It's been awhile...) between the 0 Volt line from the PSU card to
the line which fed the multi-wire cable which connected to the desk
itself. The "adjustment" was to physically move that wad of wire around
inside of the PSU chassis to "tune for minimum hum". I was
...ahhhh...NOT impressed, but it sort of worked OK.
I was also bugged by the fact that Neotek was using "ground everything
to everything", including the front panels, hence causing totally
varying hum levels depending upon whether modules were bolted into the
frame or not.
Best,
Bri

hi all,
i own a neotek elite 40 channel from 1986.
i miss a phase meter in the middle , does anybody knows how i can get one?
also looking for moving faders, uptown/GML/ whatever is working ....
i am working on refurbishing the console, witch suffers from a lot of
contact problems on all switches... the plan is to give it a treat in
an ultrasonic bath. anybody have experience with putting a whole
channel strip in these ultrasonic bath?
another problem i have is a ground loop in the mixer resulting in a 50Hz
hum . the channels will be muted and master +10 DB, monitoring+10 DB ,
as soon as i start switching channels on (with faders down) the hum will
appear and will sum all channels.
i have checked the power supply and have ordered new components for the
recap, but the problem still arrives from the mixers grounding method.
if you're familiar with the grounding infra structure of this console
please tip me.
thanx
Barak, they call me dude ...
