Normally, you produce a master (in this case a gold disk) which is
given to the duplicators to make an impression to press the production
run. The contents of this gold disk should really be kept on the hard
disk, or a second gold disk made as a backup. However, if the
duplicators refuse to release the gold disk they burned the copies
from, there is no way that you can prove the dodgy CD's are due
to an error their end.

True, but as Chris said, the versions are out of date anyway, and
either an older version of V (if you still had one), or the NC3 mftp
works to allow you to get the updates.
