THe funny thing about windows .. it installs , all hardware on the
system works without doing anything ..
Load mandriva and the disk spins and spins and spins .. the wireless
doesn't work .. and haven't even taken the time to look at other stuff
.. but boy you can type on it <G>
So when you flatulant wind bags sit back and laugh about window ..
remember .. the worlds business is still being done on it .. not on
Linux.
Don't get me wrong .. i would love to use linux but if it doesn;t work
on my laptop/workstation then there is really no reason to keep it on
the disk .. just taking up room like a bad relative
But thanks to all the *helpful* suggestions
sympatico .. yeah .. right .. just like gw

The very first reply you got from Ian was exactly what you needed and
very politely phrased, IIRC. It had the exact info you needed to solve
your problem, so I don't se what your problem is. Granted, Joe has a bit
of a sarcastic sense of humour and we're still getting used to him
(well, some of us anyway, Grin!), but what's with the attitude, dude?
What's left of the Mandriva list is a lot like a family, so there's
bound to be teasing and kidding around,..and the occasional "Welcome
Back" stuff going on.
But you got yourself into your own situation and considering where you
work, one would think that if you can't restore a master boot record
that someone else at your company could.
Just because you're frustrated about your inability to solve a very
simplistic problem, doesn't mean you should start calling people names
or being insulting. There was NO call for that!
Besides, that's our job, not yours!
Side Note - Joe, go to your room, you bad boy and consider yourself
punished! You don't get any blood-sausage for supper (but the steak and
lobster is always a nice alternative! Grin!). As for the rest of you
(myself included) no TV for the next 15 minutes!
Now, if you STILL haven't solved YOUR problem, then try reading the
detailed instructions below and once you're done fixing it, please
adjust your attitude.
Boot the first Mandriva CD, Press F1 and when you see a prompt type the
word 'rescue' and press the Enter key.
You'll see a menu and there's an option in there to restore your Windows
Master Boot Record. Once it's all done, exit and reboot.
If you have a problem doing it that way, use Windows XP to create a
bootable floppy diskette. When that's ready, boot your computer with the
floppy and when you get to your A:\ prompt, type the following;
fdisk /mbr
and Press Enter.
When it's done, remove the floppy diskette, reboot and Windows will
start up (assuming that it was installed on your system in the first
place) and your personal trauma will be all done with.
Now, that gives you 2 ways to get the same thing done. If that's not
good enough for ya, then take Heikki's advice;
"Buy WindowsXP home or professional. Start the computer on CD
and by installing Windows format the hard disks to NTFS."
I mean, really! How many methods do you need to do this one simple thing
for Pete's sake?
WAY WRONG ATTITUDE!
Nuff Said!
