I just went through something similar on my 83 650. Maybe a week after replacing the fuse panel the bike wouldn't start and I had to push it home. At first when I turned the key I would get the normal signs of electrical life and it would try to start, but it wouldn't run. After a few tries of this and turning the key back and forth multiple times, it no longer even gave me any sign of life when I turned the key. Turned out to be a problem inside the ignition switch. Took the ignition switch apart, cleaned and sanded the contacts and put it back together. The contacts had corroded enough over 26 years to start sparking a bit. Heated the plastic enough to make one of the contacts stick. Has been running ever since (although I think I will have to replace it completely this winter as it gives me the occasional sign it is having a problem). However, if something is sticking inside the ignition switch on yours I don't see how pushing the wires behind the fuse panel would remedy that? Maybe next time it happens try lightly tapping the key a little bit and see if that brings it back to life. That seemed to have an effect when my ignition switch when it was acting up. Please let us know what you find out. I have been dealing with issues around the fuse panel and ignition switch since I bought the bike and would be interested to see if this is something else I have to look out for.
