I don't have first-hand experience with the cam chain issue, if that's
what it is, but I've heard that you can ride till the cows come home
without fixing it, if you can put up with the noise.

Another thing I've heard is that the spring that maintains the tension
is the culprit.  The spring tensioner is no longer available thru OEM
parts channels, but if you can determine the engineering specs for it,
you can custom order a generic replica thru McMaster-Carr industrial
supply:

Again, just stuff I've heard here and there.  Don't quote me on any of
