Oddly enough, I am actually looking to go smaller than my 750 NH, as my daily commute is only 15 miles at a maximum speed of 50 if I take the main roads, 18 and 45 on back roads.
I've really been looking at a Suzuki TU250 X for a commuter: single cylinder, EFI, closed loop operation, light weight, and 79mpg with a 40 horse output. Sounds good to me for $3900 brand new. He's about 6 feet and 175lbs. In the end he ended up getting a V-Star 650 and frankly he hates it because it's just not comfortable to ride in that position for miles on end. In my opinion is you'll be un-happy with anything smaller than a 650 within 6 months.
