My tacoma has the filter right over the passenger-side upper A-arm. Not so
hard to get to, but it also has the check valve to hold oil in the upper
engine. So as soon as the filter is off all that oil spills down on the
suspension and runs everywhere. No way to get a funnel or anything
underneath it.
My mom's 4Runner on the other hand has the oil filter on top of the engine,
right in front, with a catch tray around it and a nipple on the bottom you
could attach a hose to. You could change the oil filter in that truck while
wearing your Sunday finest.
