Surfswab: You are correct. It is an exploratory fee. My intention is for him to find the problem and then I'm planning to get the parts I need to fix it and do it myself. They said that it could top out at about 12 hours of work to rebuild and they charge 99 / hour. They are a small outfit and seem pretty trustworthy. They are also very busy and their shop is always full.
I've watched videos on youtube for top end rebuilds and they make it seem easy. Obviously, they're experienced professionals. But it looks like fun. This is the plan. I feel like it's also an important step for me to take in learning how the engine works etc and I would hate to part with this bike. Every mechanic I've taken this bike to see has praised its qualities and durability. I probably am to blame for running it out of oil (although I'm still puzzled by all this). I don't have any contacts over here that know a lot about motorcycle mechanics so I'll probably chime in with the nighthawk email list once in a while. You guys have been tremendously helpful in the past! Again, thanks!! Stefano -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
