I like your assertion on P's situation, and its probably the most likely
truth to whats going on. Once a romantic always a romantic. I think it
affected his psyche. He is a gemeini and has two sides, one the
workaholic musical genius, the other the husband and lover, which
usually suffers with someone of his stature.

<Moderaotr: He should of listened to this Dad in Purple Rain. "Don't Get
Married". It's simple and sweet :-D -Derek>

I don't know if money is an issue... sometimes he certainly seems to
spending it left and right--the $70,000/month rent for that fake 3121
house (although I would think that Universal paid for it since it was
part of THEIR promotional contest)... but he seems pretty shrewd when
it comes to money--like his decision to bulldoze both houses in
Chanhassen rather than pay high property taxes on them.

As far as band members, don't know what he does now, but I seem to
remember reading an interview with Blackwell which said P sometimes
pays a retainer to keep them on call, but it's usually a nominal fee.
OR if he's not using a band, they'll get laid off.

He's smart when it comes to industry stuff--he makes the record
company foot the bill for all record-related expenses. I'm sure that
was part of his negotiation with Universal--that they provide him a
promotion budget... same with Sony--that's probably why we got such
quality music videos from both Musicology & 3121. Well Te Amo and
Black Sweat were high quality videos... Fury looked like a home movie
uploaded to youtube, but by then the Universal relationship probably
had soured.

He makes gooo gobs of money touring... those Vegas 3121 shows grossed
over 1/2 a million dollars each (2000 tix @ $312/ea = $624,000) And
of course in 04, Musicology grossed what was it, 90 million?

After reading the responses on here and thinking more about it, the
only conclusion I can draw is that his personal life is what has taken
its toll on him. As much as he wants folks to respect his privacy and
keep his personal life out of the public eye... I really do think his
breaks ups have been critical moments in his artistic career.

Vanity, Susannah, Mayte, and Manuela--he invested A LOT of emotion and
art into these women (think of how many songs were written with just
them in mind) and when they leave it has not been on the best of
terms... one must wonder how those songs sound to him now... Once
inextricably linked to those women... She Loves Me 4 Me or Call My
Name probably doesn't sound the same anymore.

And poor Tamar... she got caught in the crossfire. Sunday in the
Park, All Eye Want Is U, and Redhead Stepchild sounded like good
tracks... hopefully her project will find a home.
