Hey Guys.

I know this is something that splits the waters a bit, but i feel it is a
discussion that should be taken.

This comes from a discussion on the FXPHD foums about the new free and
cheap (999$) version of Fusion and the role of the Nuke product line in the
VFX industry.

VFX software development, staying cutting edge and having good support
costs a lot of money. And being in a niche market doesn't make that much
better. So i don't really mind the prices of The Foundry software too much.
We have both Nuke and Nuke X seats in our facility and are 100% going to
have a Nuke Studio seat once it arrives. And like everyone else, we love
Nuke.
But when it comes to paying twice the price of a Nuke seat to get a Nuke X
seat, it becomes very hard to justify. Especially when products like
AfterEffects come with build in Planar Tracking, 3D tracking and particles
for a fraction of the price. And it just become a bit of an annoyance, that
you have to figure how to best distribute your Nuke licenses based on
demand for those "Premium" features from the artists.

If the Nuke X Planar Tracker was on par with Mocha AE and the Particle
System on par with Fusion's it could maybe make somewhat more sense, but
they sadly aren't and just don't feel like 3707$ worth of features.

So i am wondering what you guys think. Do you find the "All the tools in
One Box" approach worth the premium or do you feel The Foundry should do
something about it?
I am wondering if they should just take price for a regular Nuke up to
5000$ and then scrap the Nuke X product completely, leaving Nuke and Nuke
Studio as the nuke product line?
