August 18, 2020

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)

     8/17: A HUDSONIAN GODWIT was seen from East road.

     8/18: A MARBLED GODWIT, reported last week, was seen again this week up to 
the 21st. It seemed to be hopping back and forth between VanDyne Spoor Road in 
Wayne County and Knox-Marsellus Marsh in Seneca County. It was also reported 
once on Wright Road near VanDyne Spoor Road. Also seen from Towpath Road on the 
18th. were 11 shorebird species including BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER and both 
DOWITCHERS.

     8/20: 14 species of Shorebirds including the afore mentioned MARBLED 
GODWIT, STILT SANDPIPER, BAIRD’S SANDPIPER, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and WILSON’S 
PHALAROPE were seen from Towpath Road at Knox-Marsellus Marsh.

     8/24: A BAIRD’S SANDPIPER  and a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were reported from 
Towpath Road.







Cayuga County

--------------

     8/19: A WHIMBREL was seen at West Barrier Bar Park in Fair Haven. 

     8/22: A WHIMBREL was again seen at West Barrier Bar Park along with a 
RUDDY TURNSTONE and 3 SANDERLING.







Onondaga County

------------




      RED CROSSBILLS continue at Shakham Road and Herlihy Road in the Morgan 
Hill State Forest.  3 were seen on the 20th. and 11 were seen on the 21st.

     8/21: A rare for our area YELLOW THROATED WARBLER was seen at a private 
residence in Manlius. A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen from Jamesville Ave in 
Syracuse. 

     8/22: A YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER was seen on Bardeen Road in Fabius.







Oswego County

------------




     8/19: 9 species of Shorebirds including BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, RUDDY 
TURNSTONE and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were seen at the Sandy Pond Outlet on Lake 
Ontario.

     8/23: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen at Noyes Sanctuary on Lake Ontario 
in the Town of New Haven.







Madison County

------------




     8/18: 2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen on Fyler Road in Kirkville.

     8/21: A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen from the Thruway near Chittenango.

     8/22: A BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER and an AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER were found 
at the Sky High Sod Farm on Lakeport Road north of Chittenango. They have been 
reported each day since including today.

    




Oneida county

------------




     A CAPE MAY WARBLER was reported from Lakeshore Road at the northeast end 
of Oneida Lake. 8 species of Warblers including a Wilson’s were seen at Spring 
Farm Nature Sanctuary south of Clinton.







Extralimital

------------




     The BROWN BOOBY reported last week at Indian Lake in Hamilton County was 
relocated again this week. It was seen from the 19th. through the 22nd. Best 
Viewing was from the Indian Lake Marina or better yet from a boat which didn’t 
seem to disturb the bird.
