This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of September 15, 2020 Highlights: ----------- LEAST BITTERN BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON SNOW GOOSE BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING DUCK(Extralimital) EURASIAN WIGEON RED-NECKED PHALAROPE AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER HUDSONIAN GODWIT RED KNOT WHIMBREL WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER WESTERN SANDPIPER BAIRD’S SANDPIPER STILT SANDPIPER SANDERLING LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL COMMON NIGHTHAWK OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER PHILADELPHIA VIREO GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER LINCOLN’S SPARROW PINE SISKIN RED CROSSBILL Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ 9/15: An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was seen at Knox-Marsellus Marsh. 9/17: An EURASIAN WIGEON was seen at the Main Pool and was present up to the 19th. A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen at VanDyne Spoor Road. 9/18: A HUDSONIAN GODWIT was seen at the Visitor’s center and was present to the 19th. 9/19: A PHILADELPHIA VIREO and a LINCOLN’S SPARROW were found at Howland Island.A SNOW GOOSE, a BAIRD’S SANDPIPER and a COMMON NIGHTHAWK were all seen at the Visitor’s Center. A LEAST BITTERN was seen along the Wildlife Drive. 9/20: A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and a BAIRD’S SANDPIPER were found at the Visitor’s Center. AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS were seen at the Main Pool and at East Road. Cayuga County ------------ 9/17: A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen on West Bay Road in Fair Haven. Onondaga County ------------ RED CROSSBILLS continue to be found at the intersection of Shakham Road and Herlihy Road in the Morgan Hill State Forest. 9/15: 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen on the Creek Walk north of Hiawatha Boulevard in Syracuse. 9/16: A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was seen from the West Shore Trail of Onondaga Lake.A YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER was seen at Three Rivers WMA north of Baldwinsville. 9/17: A GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH was sound at Jamesville Ave. in Syracuse. An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was seen from the West Shore Trail on Onondaga Lake. It was seen through the 20th. 9/18: An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was seen along Rt. 31 west of Bridgeport. 9/19: A SNOW GOOSE was seen in flight on Lawrence Road in Marsellus. A LINCOLN’S SPARROW was seen on the Creek Walk north of Hiawatha Boulevard in Syracuse. Oswego County ------------ Between 9/16 and 9/19 the following birds were recorded at the Sandy Pond Outlet on Lake Ontario although all were not present each day. AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON, RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, STILT SANDPIPER, WESTERN SANDPIPER, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, SANDERLING, HUDSONIAN GODWIT, RED KNOT and WHIMBREL. 9/19: 2 late NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHES were seen at the Sandy Pond Outlet on Lake Ontario. 9/20: A GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH was seen at Merrill Park near Parish. Madison County -------------- 9/19; A PINE SISKIN was seen on Green Road in Erieville. 9/20: An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was seen on Rippleton Road south of Cazenovia. 2 PHILADELPHIA VIREOS were seen at Woodman Pond north of Hamilton. Oneida County ------------ 9/15: A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at Sylvan Beach on Oneida Lake. 9/18: An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER and a SANDERLING were seen at Delta Lake state Park in Rome. 9/20: 2 SANDERLINGS were seen at Syvan Beach. Herkimer County ------------ 9/19: A LINCOLN’S SPARROW was seen at Salisbury Corners north of Dolgeville.
