Hi Trevor (Ons Civiv) and David (Obs NW) I probably missed this info, but was it the Wrensch rd subway where the stabbing happenned last week? Either way, I have been using this subway increasingly for social visits on the other side of Obs, becasue I felt safer with VS patrols around. However, I feel that this will reamin a dangerous place unless we have even more visibly patrolling in the Strubens Rd, Milner Rd and allsubway areas. Proposal In the absence of this, I would be in favour of us (OBS Civic) making a written application to Transnet for the closure of the subway (perhaps not permanently as we live in the hope of one day being able to walk safely again). The application route will be a more lengthy process, but neccessary as people need a chance to object, (esp the Observatory school whose pupils use it).
I suggest we start with a small survey on the Obs civic website to ask if people are against or for the Obs civic to apply for the closure of the site. I think we could gather enough evidence of incidents of attacks to accommpany such an application (I personally know of two incidents in the last year and can get their written support). If we do the survey as proposed, plse encourage your friends to vote. by sending them the electronic link.
