Jared,
The phrase that grabs me in you original post, and may have sparked Brad's
response as well(?), is "Call your local retailer and ask them about d20
products ... they'll tell you the truth". This seems to imply that Ryan,
author of the post you are replying to, is lying about something. Since the
"truth" is that the books are selling like hotcakes, the "lie" must be that
they won't.
Ryan's post speaks of the significant risk associated with publishing d20
works at this time and asks that people consider this risk when making
publishing decisions. He never says the books won't sell. He obviously
assumes such books *will* sell otherwise the d20STL isn't viable.
I think the d20 publishers understand your point regarding the possible
reward of publishing at this time (otherwise why are they publishing?). I
understand your point, and I suspect Brad does as well.
Ryan is addressing risk while you are addressing reward. Both your
observations (his "risk" and your "reward") seem accurate and are certainly
not mutually exclusive, but they *are* addressing different points. The
wording of your post seemed to indicate otherwise.
This is not meant as a flame. If it is taken as such then I humbly abase
myself before you asking your forgiveness.
Walter
