Pro: I had not considered using a "place" to maintain continuity. Some
sites could be structured to allow anyone to add their work. (AtFantasy is
doing it already.) This community would have an "add on" structure to world
creation rather than one that sits and evolves a bit before becoming
"official" content for that world.
Con: This format, as you described it, does not immediately allow a large
group of people to discuss or evolve an idea before it becomes "official"
content of the world. There is no, or at least not as much, quality control
between what the public submmits and what the public sees.
Pro: Then again, not everyone wants or needs idea evolution and/or quality
control.
You make an interesting point, IMO.
