In my opinion, it isn't open if you have to submit work to a group that exercises editorial control over the project. I think your best solution is to use the OGL or another open license and create your own trademark license that's only available to people who are willing to bow "to the requests of a justified leadership." Let the folks who don't want editorial control have the option of making use of your open content without the trademarks.
