Uhm...
There is no "new trend in law to cut the crap and
write in plain English." Dont know where you got that.
There is a reason we use legal jargon--it has been
defined for years in statutes and in the courts.
Particuarly where contracts are concerned, you need to
have language that all parties understand the meaning.
Like anything else, law has a "language." Complaining
about that would be like saying "why dont those
programers write in plain english" or "why dont those
scientists use plain english" or "why dont those
doctors speak in plaing english." They dont because
the "technical jargon" has a meaning.
Personally, I think the d20 STL and the OGL are
understandable by a lay person. Particularly given the
examples and Q&A that accompany them. Not to mention
the support on this particular list. I dont know how
many rounds of this same conversation we have had when
newbies join up and the veterans give them the low
down on the way it works. I've been on the list since
its inception and we have gone through this at least a
dozen times.
Read the licenses. Ask questions. Review the various
FAQs. Everyone here is here to help.
Because it is in NOBODYS interest for people to not
understand and wind up abusing the licenses out of
ignorance.
Because if someone pees in the pool, nobody gets to
swim anymore.
