Wrong. The ultimate goal here is support of open gaming. And the best way to
support it is to ensure that people can afford to put really professional
efforts behind it, with high quality production values equal to anything
Wizards can put out, or better. And the only way they can afford to do that
is if they can make money from open gaming. Otherwise, all those valuable
resources will have to be turned in another direction. If there were no
chance of at least making a little bit of money, the game stores would not
have all those great new D20 products in them. The D20 producers, for the
most part, don't expect to get rich at this; but there has to be at least a
chance of recouping some of the investment.
It is possible to be moral, ethical, altruistic, and even idealistic and
still make a profit in the process. And when you imply otherwise, you insult
people who have done a great job in bringing lots of gaming enjoyment to
gamers everywhere.
