The die roll itself you can keep closed. It's not derivative. However, it being closed is simply closed for the terms of the OGL. You can't protect it by copywriting it (it's an idea) or patenting it (as it not that novel)... I'd say anyone can take it & use it in the same way that DnD takes the concept of rolling die and higher numbers being better.

And of course any OGL rules you apply to the results of that roll are
still OLG...
