I'm not so sure it would. There are other FPGA development boards,
but what makes OGD1 unique is that it has the I/O hardware to be a
development platform for computer graphics. If Traversal and some of the
OGP members wanted to develop audio gear, or motion control gear, or
anything else, it might be necessary to spin off an FPGA development board
with the right I/O hardware to support that.
BTW, I've been occupied with other things, but could probably find a
little time to work up a part number structure for OGD1's factory options,
if that isn't already done, and if the architecture is firm enough now to
say what all the standard options are. I understand there are choices on
DAC type and transmission line impedance.
