That is the assumption I'm working under.  I don't see any other way it could
be done.  OGD1 might make a great software defined radio transmitter, but I
don't see it being usable for audio.

Let me clarify.  OGD1 would make a good stop-gap platform to prove out
some of the basic ideas (such as trying out cumulative error audio
DACs, mixing, etc, single channel).  Then that has been done, we'll
have a better idea of what the final product should look like and we
can build something specifically for that.
