I really like that name, "The Foundation for Free Hardware Designs".

My biggest worry, actually, is the money and time it might cost
Patrick to implement the change. Legal paperwork has already been
submitted, and he would have to submit an addendum. This is one case
where I might explicity ask the FSF for monetary help, if it's that
important to them. Really, the blame rests on me... IIRC, I'm the one
who came up with the name "Open Hardware Foundation." So, if anyone
should pay for the change, it's me or the FSF. Definitely not
Patrick.

But certainly, in a meritocratic forum, anyone who had the qualification
to object and didn't, must share the blame ;-) So, the money issue
should be fixed through Moneybookers and Paypal, unless FSF is can cover
it. This can also include the previous cost Patrick has paid. If the
name change will reset the whole process (1/2 year, right?) that's a
more serious issue. Of course, the OHF board may disagree on the name.

Is it possible to use OHF as the "official" name on paperwork, but to operate as FFHD? Sometimes I see references to businesses whose names are like "Yoyodyne Construction Inc, DBA Super Builders" (cf "http:// en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D/b/a"). I don't know how or if this applies to non-profit organizations.

This might be a way to use a revised name, but still get the initial paperwork through without re-starting. Of course it might be best to file for a full name change later, but I'd guess that paperwork would be less.
