Alain: Yes, I know that it is not the Java language
Micheal: I figured you did.
Alain: It is always good to make sure.
Micheal: It wasn't your particular email that prompted
me to say anything either, it was the general
direction of the conversation.
Alain: I have a tendency to be quite explicit when I
write to this list. I even repeat key parts instead of
using pronouns that might be ambiguous, but it
sometimes creates the impression that I am offended or
something. My first statement at the top of this post
is a prime example. I was merely being explicit but I
can see now how it makes me "sound" offended.
Micheal: I didn't want to make it look like people
didn't know what they were talking about because I
know they do (...) but it all got cleaned up.
Alain: No offense taken. Carry on Montescu!
Micheal: I have never heard of Z-Code before ...
A;lain: Nor have I.
Micheal: ...but if I am going to learn something new,
I'd like to use the GCC MetaCodes. Not only would it
be impressive on my resume it would be an
extraordinarily useful piece of knowledge for any kind
of programming work (and being that I'm a programmer,
that means $$$$).
Alain: Sounds enterprising. :)
Micheal: It's cross platform, well documented, and
widely supported.
Alain: Now you're talking!
Micheal: They have had to virtualize every machine
machine they can compile for and that's a pretty
impressive list.
Alain: A Virtual Machine approach without Java. I knew
that it was possible!
Micheal: Of course my favorite part is that the work
has all already been done for us :)
Alain: No sense re-inventing the wheel, eh!
Micheal: There are other advantages to this as well in
terms of future expansion.
Alain: Future expansion is definitely a high-priority
guideline in my book. Its just good design sense.
Micheal: Because we'd be using the gcc bytecodes our
stacks could be natively compiled on that platform
with no interpreter needed.
Alain: Wow! Are you pulling our leg? You are putting
us on, right?
Micheal: The "do" command is a bit tricky, but not
unsolvable.
Alain: I think that HyperCard's DO command is one of
its hottest features. Code that writes code that
writes code. Its tricky...but it's very powerful in
the right hands!
