I don't see the point of going into details of RCs for Eclipse and
Canonical/Ubuntu etc as they have lots of testers but OpenOCD seems does
not.

I can't see why you right now want a new release at all.

If you do, it appears to be a time-based one.

I have no idea who you think the legion of testers will be, my guess is
about 4 people.  I'm not sure if 4 is an overestimate.

I see various people trying to make useful changes (for which I am
potentially grateful so please carry on guys!).  I suppose the master
would be what I'd get if I wanted an up to date version.

To be clear: I don't care if there's a "new release" or not.  I care
even less what it's called although it really ought to have a number that
reflects whatever noteworthy changes it has.  (Which are?)  Or failing
that it may as well have a time-based number.  Even better if it gets
real tough testing but I don't actually see that happening except down
the line over the months.
