Most people use google via the web interface. Adobe is indeed used by a lot of people (mostly on Windows and Macs), but many of those people also use Motif apps. Motif has been /the/ standard for 19 years---there are a lot of Motif apps. But unlike you, I'm not arguing that QT and GTK /don't/ have a userbase. I'm refuting your false assertion that Motif has /no userbase, is unsupported and doesn't support section 508. > > http://theunixgeek.blogspot.com/2007/10/gtk-vs-qt.html > > > > I'll quote just a little from the article: > > > > "When it comes to developing GUI applications on Linux, people > > either will program in GTK or QT. There's an LGPL version of > Qt now that you can use for commercial software. You seem to be ignorant of a lot of history. There has been an LGPL version of QT for much, much longer than 2 years. The LGPL version of QT is always a little behind the commercial version. But you have a point: QT and GTK/Gnome might be so unstable that anything written about them or for them two years ago is probably out of date. But most people think stability is a good thing. Most developers I know don't want to keep rewriting their user interface code every six months. Most developers want a look and feel that will work and fit in on many platforms, not just Linux. > As for the rest of what you said, I'll never agree. But as others > have said: Motif is dead; deal with it. Well, Motif is dead only in your fantasies. If Motif were actually dead, you wouldn't need to lie about its support status and its section 508 support to convince people its dead. --Dean -- Av8 Internet Prepared to pay a premium for better service? www.av8.net faster, more reliable, better service 617 344 9000 _______________________________________________ opensolaris-code mailing list opensolaris-code@opensolaris.org http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/opensolaris-code
