salam azmi your comments work both ways
as a boss who reviews documentation from staff, the learning curve of PROPER use of an office suite is steep for newbies (example proper use of heading, paragraph and page styles). i still see lots of rubbish [Tab] instead of proper paragraph indents, using typed number, then [tab] then heading title, instead of the simple paragraph heading style the m$ 2010 requires additional familiarisation as it has made use of the ribbon icon a hide-and-seek game. to fit their horrendous large icons, m$ have resorted to hiding them behind other obscure icons. try doing a 300 page admin manual on a 8.9" inch screen netbook with those large icons taking up 25% of the screen ! if everyone used oo.o open formats, there will not be any problems of formatting. if the users can afford to pay for the m$ office licenses (they are paying for it right ?), then by all means make the most of it. other than the 2 concluding points you made, i would also like to add: stronger enforcement against software piracy raising society's ethics against 'stealing' personally, i cant afford to have 4 copies of m$ office for each of the 4 computers at my home, therefore myself, my wife, my 10 year old daughter and my 5 year old son make do with oo.o . even my 74 year old mother makes do with oo.o . my children use ubuntu exclusively on the pc clone. open source is not just about linux and openoffice.org and the desktop. just think, if there were no linux / php / python - would there be google or f...@#b%k ? if you are a f...@#b%k user, you are already a part user of open source.
