Hej! Sorry for not being clear!
The message I tried to send was: If the download page is more clear on the result of using an installation there will be more people using Padre! The purpose of the questions I gave was to give indications of information needed. You hesitate to use an installation if you do not know the intentions with it and the consequences of using it . The “release information” http://szabgab.com/blog/2011/05/strawberry-perl-with-cream-5-12-3-v3-released.html gives information about how to create the distribution and a little bit about the intention with it. If you are a normal Perl programmer it is difficult to understand what the result is. Is it an extended Strawberry perl installation and replaces it? Can it co-exist with Strawberry perl? …? ... Ahmad Zawawi wrote: “It is way faster but does not replace official MSI strawberry releases. It does not handle upgrades like official strawberry releases.” Does this mean that you first install the “official MSI strawberry release” and the use the "Padre on Strawberry" to extend it? Anyhow, thanks for the answers and a very good work with Padre and for Perl! I am glad you ask. Things that are obvious to me are not obvious to others. Obviously. Whatever :) > "Padre on Strawberry" is it Padre and Strawberry perl extended with some > packages!? Here is the receipt: - Take the standard Strawberry http://strawberry-perl.googlecode.com/files/strawberry-perl-5.12.3.0.msi - Install Padre - Install Moose - Install a lot more CPAN packages - build an .exe to install all of this. So I think the answer to the above question is yes. > > Is this a fast way of installing an extended Strawberry perl? Do I miss > something? No, it is just that. A bunch of pre-installed CPAN packages on top of Strawberry. > What happens if I already has Strawberry perl installed? Can I use them > in > parallel? Is the old installation overwritten? I don't remember how is it with the standard Strawberry but with this package you can choose your installation directory. So you don't have to overwrite the previous Strawberry installation. If you have several perl installations on the same machine you will have to make sure the PATH variable has only the one you are currently using. This is a bit more complex in Windows than in Linux so I'd probably recommend to first uninstall any other perl distribution and only keep one on your system. It avoids some potential confusion. > There are a portable and a “non” portable versions of Strawberry perl. (I > have never understood the difference!). Now that I am an expert on packaging for Windows :) I'll attempt to create a stand alone Rakudo Star installation and then I'll try to get the Perl6 plugin working on the Padre-on-Strawberry making this "Plus Six" totally unnecessary. We'll see. regards Gabor _______________________________________________ Padre-dev mailing list Padre-dev@perlide.org http://mail.perlide.org/mailman/listinfo/padre-dev _______________________________________________ Padre-dev mailing list Padre-dev@perlide.org http://mail.perlide.org/mailman/listinfo/padre-dev
