i suggest you DONT remove them, if you want smaller applications with
the ability to have the user install the appropriate version, then
make your icons (what the app launcher shows) available in 1bpp and
color.. when you start the application, check if the device can handle
color.. if not, say the app is incompatable - and that they should
  install the b+w version.

it is important to have your icons with the ICONFAMILY - because,
as i pointed out in a previous post.. the launcher will crash with
a bitmap in the version 2 family..

try just having ICONCOLOR - you will see..

this could prompt me to remove the following tags from PilRC:

    ICONGREY
    ICONGREY16
    ICONCOLOR

as they will crash old devices.. with the family, i should also
ENFORCE the b+w icons. this will remove all "issues" relating
to this - and everyone will be happy.

i will apply these rules to 2.5b3 of PilRC
(i will be releasing another update soon)

you will only be able to use ICON and ICONFAMILY, but when you
use ICONFAMILY - you MUST provide a b+w icon. any comments?

it will only be done with ICONS, BITMAPS are a different kettle of
  fish :P

  cheers.
