Since your temp reading is 85 when first booted, you probably have a 
semi-calibrated temperature reading.   123 to 166 F is not too 
extreme a temperature, but I would still confirm that the side fan in 
the 9600 is running and that you have a minimum of dust in the 
computer.  (Dust acts like an insulator, and can also conduct 
electricity if the humidity is up.)

You don't mention it, but what version of the OS are you using and 
which versions of IE and Opera.   I know older versions of IE were 
not stable, but the latest build is much better.   Also, if you ran 
older versions of IE, it dumped a lot of extensions into your system 
that are no longer needed, and led to overall system instability. 
I've been through an OS upgrade since then, and don't remember the 
titles of them, but they started with "MS..." or "Microsoft...".
