Do you have the whole machine closed up? When I had my XLR8 G4/450 in my 7600, I almost never had the top on. It never got hot. When I put it into my 8600, after a few minutes I got a message to shut down my machine as it was overheating. I put the cover back on (it has a fan on it) and the temperature was normal. I ran it for a few days, and I got the same overheating message when I was testing my new CD-RW drive hooked to my Trio card. Buttoned it up, and it runs the correct temp. Why it never overheated in the 7600, with all the same stuff, is beyond me. I'm sure it has to do with the horizontal vs vertical differences between the two machines.
STeve << I just upgraded a 9600 to the above, and I'm concerned about the processor temperature shown by the Cache Profiler. It reads 85 when first booted, and then 166 to 123 degrees after running for about 10 minutes. Should I be concerned? I'm getting type 1,2,3 and 10 errors, usually in Internet Explorer and Opera, and trying to track them down, I'm considering the possibility of excess heat as a culprit. >> -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
