Get a USB card installed in your machine or simply use your iMac. Even if
the camera doesn't have a USB port on it BUT uses those storage cards (which
most decent cameras do) ie. Compact flash, Smart Media, Memory Stick, etc.
you can always get a card reader that attaches to your computer via USB. If
you don't have the room for an extra USB card then ditch your FiWi and get a
combo USB/FiWi card (that's if you only want to use your 8500 for photos).

If you have a card reader you won't need any software from the camera
manufacturer. Without the card reader you'll need to get a camera that is
compatible with the Mac OS and has drivers. If you are using OS X and have
iPhoto AND your camera is supported by iPhoto, you won't need any extra
drivers. You can import via iPhoto.

I've heard good things about the Canon series of digital cameras. Nikon,
Minolta, Sony, and Olympus rank right up there. I've heard there are
problems with Kodak especially with "purple fringing" on your images. 2MP
is ok but you're stuck with regular photo size pictures. You can enlarge
them but the quality would not be that good. 3MP and up is the way to go.
I'm waiting for the 4MP to drop even further. Also try to stick with
cameras that DON'T use smart media. These disks are becoming obsolete (if
they're not already) and I believe the maximum they can get up to is 128MB.

Installing any version of Windows on your computer is like getting ready for
a crash test and you're the dummy.
