Having worked quite a bit with the 7500 machine, my practical experience is that my 8 mg ixMicro Ultimate Rez video board performs much better in 2D acceleration (window scrolls, redraws, etc.) than the Radeon 7000 or Radeon Mac Edition. The last ixMicro software was also quite sophisticated with many user controls-but, alas, cannot handle OS X. I believe the Radeon Mac Edition PCI (with 32 mg ram) is the best available video board for PCI macs like the 7500-9600 and Beige G3. I have been able to do the Quartz Extreme "hack" on my Beige G3 in Jaguar and will b doing it on one of my 7500 machines soon. YRMV?
In an unrelated area-the latest XPostFacto is claimed to be able to install and boot OS X on a drive connected to a Firewire PCI card. If so, that would be a tremendous boost for 7500-9600 users. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
