what happens if you download the tools diskette 7.5.5 from the
internet ? it's free you know.

why should the install cd work when the disk tool diskette from that
same shipping does not ?

it means that it doesnt find a bootable system on that cd, either its
the wrong system or somethin else

no

how long did you have the battery out and how long the button ?
someone else here knew all that very well a while back

>I then went to the local neighborhood Mac store and was given a disk
>that should
>boot ok on this machine. When I insert this disk the machine ejects
>it and I get
>a diskette in the middle of the screen with a blinking x on it.

then it is the wrong diskette, is the diskstation connected properly ?
does the cd spin up at all ? is it powered correctly ?

and

the quadra is not a powerpc machine the quadra is unless upgraded a
68 k machine - you can not get a quadra hd to work in the power pc,
it might start up and work for a while though.

i may not surely remember all this correctly but i think that 7.5.3
won't work but 7.5.5 will work in the 7500, you can update the
diskette - but also download them from apple, I tried to make
bootcds with system 7.6 and it did not work, I put 8.1(from the
norton 4) on my startup repair disk instead - and then the installer
for 7.6 on that one. you could also start up with 8.1 disktools
diskette.
