2. I was wondering if I could install a PCI 802.11b card in the 5400 and connect to my existing wireless network. If so, can anyone recommend a source for the card?
3. Instead of a wireless card should I install a PCI USB card and then have 1 available USB port and use the other USB port for a wireless USB device? Again, any recommendations on where I can find these items?
Option 3.5
Since the 5400s have a 10bt ethernet connector, I vote for option 3.5. There is an item called a Ethernet-to-Wireless Bridge. I am using one on a beige G3 that does not have any free pci slots. These allow any ethernet enabled device hook up to a wireless network.
I am using the D-Link AirPlus DWL-810+ Ethernet-to-Wireless Bridge http://www.dlink.com/products/?model=DWL-810%2b and it works flawlessly with my beige. The advantage is that you do not need any drivers for it in any Mac os. I have used it in 9.2 and X. But since there are no drivers, it will work with any Mac that can connect to an ethernet network.
The one recommendation I make is that you try and get one that is the same brand as your basestation if possible. When you keep to the same brand, it USUALLY make configuration easier. Also, when you have a power outage, you do not have to reconfigure things, the network will probably work as soon as the power is back.
To give you an idea of how device independent these devices are, you can even use them with gaming consoles that support ethernet, like the playstation.
4. A good source for RAM?
The best source is the swap list. with coast to coast (www.18004memory.com) and OWC (www.eshop.macsales.com)
