I am trying to remote administer a PowerMac 6500/275 without a monitor and I am getting really frustrated.
would not boot up without a monitor untill I removed every extension related to video.
LOL You cut the mac off at its knees! See Bruce's reply. By removing both the video software and the monitor, you explicitly told the system to not configure ANY any video output buffers!
What are my remote-admin options for this Mac? VNC in the past had seems extremely prone to crashes and Timbuktu used to work for me but now that seems to fail for some reason.
VNC works fine, but you have to tweak it a bit.
VNC Server 3.3.3b3 seems to be the most stable. Give it LOTS of memory; 6000K seems to work nicely.
Ignore the default VNC client - it sucks.
Try VNCThing, and again - give it lots of memory. It seems to work fairly well.
Also upgrade to at least OS 8.5 or 8.6 if you can. Big diff in Open Transport stability and performance.
