We are not on the same page here at all.
The iTunes Store is not the business Apple is in.
Do you concede that they ARE in the business of selling music ? And doing VERY well at it ?
The iTMS has taken off well but it's not their bread and butter and they won't waste money
It may not be the bread but it IS the butter !
re-writing the OS 9.1 iTunes application so a small percentage of Mac users can download music from the store. It would be just a bad business decision and not cost-effective.
That would not be the way to go about it at all and is not at all what I suggested. What I did say was that they can give some third world outsourced
programer the instruction to add some pages of HTML to allow us to buy music off the page. Like People do at other mp3 online outlets. More is more as we used to say in the construction industry. This writing of added web pages does not represent a large investment of money or time.
And would not only bring added revenue but also NOT cut into computer or iPod sales.
I consider myself fortunate to have a version of iTunes that runs on a pre-OSX operating system. In fact if SoundJam had not already written the program iTunes would probably not exist for OS 8.6 & 9 at all.
Read my bet again I think I covered the bases.
It would not take much to provide html to allow access in another way for us who are behind in our configurations. It only take a desire.
Maybe you should email them and start a petition of pre-OSX users who would like to download iTunes music. I have a few of the free Pepsi iTunes downloads but never could use them. I got over it.
iTunes music store is the most successful online music provider to date from what I read. You think they are not making huge profits on this / It may rival the profits made on computers. This is an ever increasing part of the Apple make no doubt of it.
But it's not their business focus, and will always be a secondary division of Apple Computer Co. no matter how much it makes. Eventually there will be a decent competitor selling downloaded songs and Apple knows that.
Personally I prefer Apple to use their resources developing new technology and not wasting time to accomadate old software users. I agree that I would like to see it done, but Apple is a Computer Co., not a Music Co. The legal issues with Apple Record Co. will never let Apple Computer Co. become focused on Music without a huge cost to Apple Computer Co.
I don't agree here at all. And Apples divisions can handle any allocation of resources I'm sure. They're not putting electronics engineers on the problem .
" G6 " development is not threatened by this ! LOL
No, the reason Apple opened it to Windblows users was to dip into a huge trough of money !
That is more of getting their foot in the door of users of wintell machines than making money on 99 cent songs. It all is marketing, just not marketing for us pre-OSX users.

If you want tunes get Limewire and download free (stolen) songs and import them into iTunes or convert and import your CD collection into iTunes.
If I wanted to steal tunes I would have started years ago dude. And you're way off base to suggest this I'm a grown man . There's no obsessive collection of hip hop or alternative here. I'd just like to get a few tunes to my taste.
