Some programs don't like VM and want it off.   With over 600 MB you
probably don't need VM unless you are into absolutely huge Photoshop
projects.  For web surfing and word processing it's probably a waste
of time. VM is mostly for trying to do projects that are to big for
the available RAM. And can slow down a system if overused.


I always use it but generally only 1Mb over Real memory.  This allows
the system to allocate memory more efficiently.  With 600Mb RAM it's
still a maybe thing to do though.  With small amounts of Real RAM
it's worthwhile.
