How do you assign more VM to the finder??????

There are basically two situations where you'd need to give Finder more Preferred (initial) memory.

1) Using an older memory-sloppy print driver, with background printing enabled.

2) Mounting/accessing lots of disk volumes and/or folders that have excessive number of files in them.

Note that for most tasks, the Finder gets temp memory from the System itself. So giving it a lot of memory initially isn't worth the effort.

To increase the Finder's preferred memory allocation, you need to first fool the system into thinking the Finder is a normal application. Then make the change, then change the Finder back to being special.

1. Make a copy of the Finder. NEVER ever work on the live file! Do this by option-dragging Finder to your desktop. Make sure you see the copy dialog!

2. Change the copy of Finder to be a normal application.
Any tool that changes file type codes will work fine. ResEdit, File Buddy, etc. Change the Finder's type from "FNDR" to "APPL". Case counts! Gotta be exact!

3. Use the Finder's normal Get-Info to change the allocation, just like you would with any application. Note that an allocation of 1000K, for the Finder, is BIG.

4. Change the copy of Finder back to being special.
Same as in step 2. But change the type code from "APPL" to "FNDR". You should see the icon change back to being the Finder.

5. Drag the running Finder from your System Folder into some other folder.

6. Drag the copy of Finder into the System Folder.

7. Close the System Folder and (re)bless it by double-clicking on it while holding down the Option key.

8. Reboot.
