Any tool that changes file type codes will work fine. ResEdit, File Buddy, etc. Change the Finder's type from "FNDR" to "APPL". Case counts! Gotta be exact!
If you have ResEdit just open the copy of Finder then open up the single Size resource, scroll to the bottom and set the size there.
And if you do it as you suggest, without creating a new resource, you're violating Apple's specs -- which will cause future patchers to fail. And, being ResEdit, there are a zillion other things that can wrong.
I shouldn't have included ResEdit in my previous posting. It simply isn't the right tool for the average user.
