There is another option - you could get a cheap USB Card ($10) for the the old Mac and one of the USB file transfer cables listed on this site:

I have never used one but they seem pretty simple to use and would nice to have for future use.
My second suggestion is an ethernet crossover cable and an ethernet card.
You could also take the 2 Macs to an Apple dealer or local Mac guru and pay them to transfer the files for you.

IMHO: A very bad advise!
$3.40 for the CD-Rs. And that method leaves you with a backup copy of the data. This may ultimately be slower than moving the data across ethernet. But ending up with a backup of your data is never bad advice, IMHO!
