Hmmm...
I just checked my Daystar PCI clone and I expected the 512k on-board cache to be OFF since thee is 1.0 Meg cache on the Sonnet G4 800 card in it, but the Profiler tells me that it sees 512k of L2 cache and 1.0 Meg of L3 cache.
On the 9600 with the NewerTech G3 the Profiler tells me that I have 512k of L2 cache AND 1.0 Megs of L2 cache.
Turning the cache OFF in the MAXPower control panel does not seem to do anything. Are there any other applications that are supposed to be able to do this ?
Both machines are very fast...
Part of what you are seeing is one of the differences between the G3 and G4 processors. The G3 has an L1 cache built into the chip and supports an external L2 cache. The G4 has both an internal L1 and L2 cache and supports and external L3 cache. As for the 9600 setup, sometimes Apple's system profiler gets confused with add-in G3 cards. You should check using Newer Tech's Guage Pro and confirm the motherboard L2 cache is disabled. Running with this on and a G3 card has been known to cause data corruption.
