Clint, I've never had a problem in having the tray icon turned off on 
either win98SE or win2k and I'm still using 9.24.  I tried my neighbor's 
cordless MS Intellimouse and it took the jerkiness to a new level, 
something I didn't see with their standard Intellimouse.
