First, remove/disable "error reporting". It can not only actually CAUSE errors, but you sure don't want your personal info sent back to MS. Contrary to what they claim, 'personal sensitive information' IS sent back to them, and they couldn't care less about the errors you're getting. Proof of that is the same errors are occurring even after years have elapsed. I had them continuously on '98 every since IE 5.01 SP2. Same thing on ME with IE6. The last stable GOOD MS browser was IE 5.01 SP1. After that (with SP2) is when the problems broke loose. I haven't had any YET on XP.
Since you don't give any specifics on the error message (and you need to post them if this email is no help, and post your OS); you could try the IE repair tool, but I've never had any luck with it. Since you mention a Netscape page, you know their pages are not only optimized for NS, but they probably purposely do things so IE won't work with them! NS uses a different Java type than IE. You also mention something that sounds like ad popups. NS is known for those. You should be using a popup stopper to put and end to them, but note that the PU stoppers can and will block needed PU windows at times. PopUp Stopper Pro for example (as I'm sure others) have a button where you can "allow popups from this domain", so if the PU's are from another source (and they probably are, from places like ad.click, humanclick, ad.banner.whatever, etc) you can probably block those. If after running the IE repair tool that doesn't help (and it probably won't), I'd suggest installing Netscape to use at their sites. It's no problem having both browsers on the same PC; I have 3 installed to check all my webpages in the different browsers. Try and find NS 4.8, since NS 7 is pretty buggy and still won't handle many things correctly. It could be an "update thing" with IE. Most of the MS updates I'm finding out more and more, CAUSE numerous problems. Don't EVER install ANY of them without FIRST clicking the "read more" links to determine if you POSITIVELY need them. It could be an update you HAVE installed that is causing the problems, OR, you might NEED an update that will fix the problems. Find out what IE updates you can UNinstall, and remove them, then check the problem again. If the problem is still there, install those again and see if there is any other updates you need. Install them ONLY if you DEFINITELY need them, and ONLY one at a time, creating a restore point for EACH (on ME or XP). (Since you mention IE 5.5, I assume you can't have XP installed since I think it's IE6 out the box). IE problems are pretty hard to pin down, and even harder at times to fix. After some 15 minutes of playing, you get an intermission time with some ad for an EA game, T-Mobile, the Marines, or any number of other sponsers. After about 40 seconds it redisplayed the playing area, where you can play for some 15 minutes, and the whole things repeats itself, for as long as you play. The problem of the error box showing up especially happens during the times when things switch over from the playing display to the commercial display. Again, it is totally random it would seem, since I can sometimes play for hours without the problem happening. Yet other times, it might keep happening repeatedly one time after another after another trying to even start playing at all, till I just give up. But it does sometimes show up with other web sites, not just the ones for these games. And those do not seem to have anything with java involved either, so I dont think that might be strictly an issue. Any ideas???
