For the error reporting, you have to go to the Windows Update site and look at 'installation history' and see if it's listed. If you *are* getting the MS IE error reporting window, you (or something) had to install it from the WU site. There should be an option there to remove it or uninstall. If not, someone else will have to tell you how to disable it. I'm sure there's a registry key that can be deleted or modified to ax it. If your or others reading this that it cannot be disabled once its' installed, just don't send the reports anymore, but you'll still have to deal with that annoying window and probably the error condition (or other errors) as well.
Well that all makes sense, since like I said NS & IE use different Java versions, and NS happens to use Sun. What are these links? It would be a good idea to let others check these pages and see what happens with them. If others have the problem then we'll know it's a Java compatibility problem. MS has had several updates to their Java VM, so you may need these in order to use the MS VM. If you already have them installed, then it could be one of the VM updates that is CAUSING the problem. NS 3.x probably doesn't support much. Why not install NS 4.8 on it? Unfortunately, it is a white box that says that Internet Explorer has experienced an error condition and needs to shut down. It has a box to let you restart IE, as well as 2 other boxes at the bottom - one to send an error report and one to just quit without sending an error report. I am using 98SE currently on this system. I went back from IE6 to IE5.5, so would have thought that might solve this problem, since had it quite often with 6 - 5.5 is just as bad it would seem these days. This problem really started when I was getting messages dealing with the VM - tried to redownload and could not ever do so. So I HAD to get the Java machine from Sun's web site, like it or not. The basicly stopped getting the constant message I was getting from IE about problems running Java pages but I have getting this problem since. I never had a problem with running anything from Netscape's site or any other until this idiotic problem with Java started showing up. And it turns out, a friend of mine got the same exact problem with IE on his system as well - the only way to stop the problem, since he likewise could not get the JVM from MSs site and get it to work, was to get the Java Machine from Sun's site. > You also mention something that sounds like ad popups. I was just hoping to just use my old version of Netscape Navigator 3.08G as well as IE on this system, since my new one will have both old and newer versions of NS as well as IE - just did not want to deal with some of those issues right now. You sure are right on that one Clint - after all I have read on MSs whole approach to the whole update idea, am getting to really dislike them more and more these days. Sill wish I could figure out what in the world was the original problem with the JVM that I and others have had problems with that started this whole mess anyway.
