Jeannie, Sounds like a font issue try replacing the bullets with a font from your system. Word 97 on it's own does not create pdfs you have to install the full version of acrobat to be able to create pdfs, however if they only need to create a few pdfs they could try the create pdf online at the adobe site, I haven't used it so I can't give you any advice on it... maybe other list members will know.
