If not, please detail HOW you created the PDF...
The original ad was created in PageMaker and then exported, probably with Acrobat or within Pagemaker, as an attached PDF. The originator uses a non OS X Mac.
I then placed the PDF ad into my newsletter. I exported my newsletter as a PDF created from InDesign. The bullets then changed to the Yen symbol.
I just now opened the original PDF in Mac OS X Preview (bullets were fine), saved the document as a Preview PDF (bullets OK) and then placed it in my newsletter (Indesign). When I export a PDF from InDesign, the bullets become Yen symbols. I do not know a way to convert an InDesign page into a Preview PDF.
This confirms, of course, what you wrote earlier that it the interaction between OS X and Acrobat that is the culprit.
